No More Miracle Whip :-(

Aug 22, 2011   //   by Jay   //   Divorce, Family, Marriage in the Media, Relationship  //  Comments Off

I have to admit, I LOVE Miracle Whip. You know the tangy alternative to Mayo. However, I think my condiment of choice went WAY TOO FAR! Here are the details of the contest.

Create a video of you and your spouse/significant other that answers the question “How has MIRACLE WHIP affected your relationship?” The video should detail how your feelings for Miracle Whip impact your relationship as in “keeping you together/married” or “potentially sending you to divorce court” and state if you are unified in love, unified in hate, or divided in love and hate. The winning video gets $25,000.00 for their wedding or DIVORCE!

Seriously, with divorce rates so high in our country why would anyone encourage divorce and further give you the money to do so? Needless to say we won’t be buying Miracle Whip until hell freezes over or they change their marketing strategy.

The Irrelevant Church

When did the church become irrelevant? We’re writing this sandwiched between two conferences on Marriage and Family. The sense we’re getting is that the church has become completely irrelevant when it comes to helping marriages and families. Why? Follow this line of thought.

IF marriage is the litmus test of Spiritual formation.

IF family is the incubator of Spiritual formation.

THEN with divorce as prevalent in the church as out and with teens leaving the church in droves, the church has become irrelevant.

Perhaps the next revival/reformation/great awakening in the life of the church will come when people in the church realize that when we put marriage first and family second the rest will take care of itself.

So when do you think the church became irrelevant?

Marriage Pays?!

Feb 8, 2011   //   by Laura   //   Blended Family, Children, Communication, Dating, Marriage and Church, Marriage in the Media, Romance  //  Comments Off

Did you know that being married makes you happier and richer? I know, hard to believe when you are paying bills or arguing with your spouse!

“Marriage pays,” says National Marriage Week USA executive director Sheila Weber. “Research shows that marriage makes people happier, live longer, and build more economic security. Children with married parents perform better in school; have less trouble with the law, less teen pregnancy and fewer issues with addiction.”

If you are married and committed to staying married no matter the circumstances, you are going to be better off! The problem is that some married people, when ecountering problems in their marriage, think that they will be better off without their spouse and their children will be better off if mom and dad split up. FALSE! Don’t just take our word for it read the study.

February 7-14 is National Marriage Week USA. A week devoted to promoting marriage. “We want to get the message out that marriage is beneficial for both personal and national economic stability and for raising more well adjusted children,” says Chuck Stetson, CEO of National Marriage Week USA. In these days of economic hardship, policy leaders and individual Americans need to get serious about our efforts to strengthen marriage.”

Our encouragement to you this week, and every week, is to ask your self ,” What am I doing for my marriage today?” With your spouse, ask, ” What are we doing to strengthen our marriage on a regular basis?” Are you having regular dates? Are you involved in a Marriage Class or Small Group? Are you reading books that will help you better understand your spouse? Are you getting away just the two of you for some alone time? Take some time this week, National Marriage Week, and get eye to eye with your loved one and make a commitment in 2011 to strengthen your marriage. You will be happier and richer if you do!
